How to make a face mask
28 Apr 2020
There has been a lot of debate about the pros and cons of people who are not NHS superheroes wearing a face mask.
A recent BBC article discusses different points of view. The chief executive of NHS providers expresses concern that the public using facemasks could put NHS supplies at risk.
On the other hand, more than 100 doctors wrote to The Times a couple of weeks ago, "alarmed at official inaction over the need for the public to wear homemade face masks"
A review of whether or not we should wear homemade facemasks when out and about is underway.
If you want to prepare for the possibility that these might be recommended, or if you want to wear one anyway (whilst maintaining social distancing, of course), there is quite a good pattern here. This pattern is quicker with a sewing machine, although it can be hand stitched.
Our friends at Nidderdale Plus have put together a video for a similar mask and, if you contact them, they will send you a template (details in the link).
If you really can't sew, this is ingenious pattern can create a face mask in minutes! Thanks to Heather for sharing this no-sew facemask pattern on face book.
