KIRKBY MALZEARD AND DISTRICT FLOWER AND PRODUCE SHOW
The Flower and Produce Show is held in the Mechanics’ Institute on the first Saturday in September. There are classes for vegetables, fruit, flowers and plants; flower arranging; arts and crafts; photography and produce. In addition to open classes for children, the pupils of Kirkby Malzeard Pre-school and Primary school enter work undertaken in school and linked to the National Curriculum. The teenagers are encouraged to enter the adult classes and those gaining the most points receive gift vouchers. There are special classes for those attending Youth Club and all the Under 13s. Trophies that have been donated over the years are presented to those gaining the most points or for entering what the judge considers to be the best exhibit in certain classes. Entries are welcome from anyone living within a 3 mile radius of the Mechanics’ Institute and including the whole parish of Dallowgill.
Funding to stage the Show comes from two sources: our Sponsors and the May stall. We are enormously grateful to the businesses and individuals who sponsor the Show and would always welcome new sponsors. We hold our May stall selling plants and home-made produce, the committee organises a coffee morning and there is a raffle in support of Kirkby in Bloom.
The Committee who organise the Show is made up of a small number of local residents who meet 4 or 5 times a year to prepare the Schedule and Catalogue. They are assisted by other members of the community who help with the setting up – and clearing away – on Show day. Anyone interested in offering their help should contact any member of the committee.
