Church Wall new planning application

26 Nov 2021

There is a new planning application for repairs and restrains to St Andrew's Church wall.
You can read the history to this
HERE

The significant issues are:

The plan now includes soil nails that will support the fragile wall adjoining the part that collapsed.  These include pattress plates that will be visible.  So the Church wall will have a new spotty look.  The plates will be painted to look as unobtrusive as possible and they are the safest way to avoid further collapses in future. This decision is welcomed by the Parish Council.

But ....

The wall directly opposite the Primary School and beneath the Church tower will not have soil nail restraints because of concerns raised about the visual impact of the pattress plates.

The Parish Council is concerned about this decision and considers the location of this section of wall (directly opposite a school, below a church tower and closer to water run-off from the church roof) means that safety and making this part of the wall as robust as possible should be a priority over what it looks like.

Comments on this planning application are due in to Harrogate Borough Council by 4th December.

You can comment by emailing dmst@harrogate.gov.uk and quoting references 21/04780/RG3 and 21/04781/LB

On this plan, Meters 0 - 10 will be monitored (length and method of monitoring tbc) and meters 10 - collapsed wall (at around 26m) will be restrained with soil nails and pattress plates.
