NEIGHBOURLY TREAT DELIVERIES
13 May 2021
MASSIVE THANKS to all the lovely people who have volunteered to share Marks and Spencer surplus with residents who are elderly, live alone or who have difficulty accessing treats.
We think this is a great project because:
- Treats are very important!
- For many reasons, treats should not go to landfill
- We need to look after and treat our neighbours who are elderly or who spend a lot of time alone.
This project is co-ordinated by the charity, Neighbourly.
At the moment, we are waiting for a slot on a Sunday afternoon.
There are strict regulations from Marks and Spencers about storing food at a particular temperature and in a hygenic environment!
For this reason, it is best to collect and deliver on the same day.
Collection on Monday to Saturday is when the store closes at 8pm, which is a bit late for delivering to elderly residents.
The store closes at 4pm on Sundays, which is a better time of day for collection and delivery.
Once we get the green light from Neighbourly and Marks and Sparks, we'll leap into action!
Volunteers will be allocated a Sunday (at their convenience) to collect surplus. They will collect an ID badge and a list of addresses, and will distribute treats accordingly. How treats are distributed is not very scientific and really up to the volunteer, but any special dietary requirements will be noted on the address sheet.
Meanwhile, if you know of anyone who would like to be a recipient, please ask them to contact jane.kmldpc@gmail.com or to call the community phone (which can only receive calls and texts) :
