PHONE KIOSK PREVIEW
25 Jun 2021
Kirkby's own phone kiosk is almost open for business as a mini library!
It will be open for a preview in time for Kirkby's Open Gardens afternoon on Sunday 27th June.
There will be a grand opening and more books very soon after.
In the meantime, it would be great if residents would like to share some of their favourite books.
We have had SO MANY offers of books! THANK YOU!
There is very little space - it is a very tiny, mini Library!
For this reason we would like to limit the number of donations to 2 BOOKS per person.
If you would like to donate 2 of your favourite books, you can put them in the kiosk and note your name on the notice inside or you can drop off with Jane at Dairy House, Main Street.
If you would like to write a note on a book plate and stick it inside your book, you can download a page of 4 book plates HERE and print it. There are also some ready printed bookplates available in the kiosk.
We suggest children only add their first names to the book plates.
THANK YOUS
Huge thanks to DAVE and MALCOLM from local business D&M Design and Fabrication. They expertly fixed the mechanism that was preventing the door from opening properly. Thank you to Dave Mawer, Director, D&M for supporting this project.
Another massive thanks to NIGEL ROBERTSHAW for crafting the shelves out of my old futon!
They are amazing and fit the kiosk perfectly. Nigel also took the time to paint the back of the kiosk and get it all ready for service.
We got the official adoption papers from BT in May 2020, some months after the Parish Council first decided to save the kiosk for our community use. Covid concerns about sharing items and working on repairs in a very small area delayed work. Hopefully we can all enjoy sharing books this Summer. Thanks to Sarah and Heather for suggesting it could be used as a library.
This is a great community facility that will hopefully bring a smile to many and encourage our youngsters to love reading!
Thank you all,
Jane A xx
