TRUSTEES WANTED TO REPRESENT KIRKBY MALZEARD

25 Feb 2023

KIRKBY MALZEARD CONSOLIDATED CHARITIES

TRUSTEES WANTED TO REPRESENT KIRKBY MALZEARD

The charity was set up a long time ago as what one might refer to as a ‘poor fund’. The charity was gifted land locally which the trustees managed, the income from the land was then used to support local individuals who were in need. The trust covers the area of Kirkby Malzeard, Laverton and Dallowgill, Grewelthorpe, Azerley and Galphay.

The trust owns several parcels of land locally which are rented out to local landowners and farmers. Some land has been sold and the capital has been invested. The rental income from rent and investments are where funds come from to hand out to the causes the trustees see fit and where there is a need.

An extract from our governing document reads the charity funds shall be used…

“in relieving either generally or individually persons resident in the area concerned who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress by making grants of money or providing or paying for items, services or facilities calculated to reduce the need, hardship or distress of such persons”

Times have now changed of course. Whilst as a group of trustees we don’t want to change the original ethos of the charity, we are going through a process of re-shaping how we operate and refocusing on what the aims are in this day and age, and how we can best support and benefit our local communities. We are exploring all options on how best to generate income and utilise our assets and are very much welcoming of new ideas.

We currently have room for two trustees from Kirkby Malzeard, these places are in addition to the trustee nominated by the Parish Council.

The trust meets 3 or 4 times a year; some meetings combine a walk around the land we own to inspect it, followed by a regular meeting to go through an agenda.

Our trustees are all from the local area. More information about the trust can be found at https://givingisgreat.org/charity-factsheet/?regNo=230169.  Or contact Peter Lofthouse (Chairman) on 01765 658757.

It is suggested that the vacancies are discussed at the Kirkby Malzeard  Annual Meeting Monday 6 March 7.30pm in the Mechanics’ Institute.
