ANNUAL PARISH MEETING FOR THE PARISH OF LAVERTON (INCLUDING DALLOWGILL) 2021
26 Mar 2021
LAVERTON AND KIRKBY MALZEARD ANNUAL PARISH MEETINGS
Each Parish throughout the country is required by law to hold a Parish Meeting between March 1st and June 1st each year. In the past Kirkby Malzeard and Laverton/Dallowgill held a joint meeting. From 2019, it has been agreed to hold separate Parish Meetings for Laverton (which includes Dallowgill) Parish and for Kirkby Malzeard Parish.
The purpose of the Parish Meeting is to provide an opportunity for anyone on the Electoral Register of that Parish to discuss general topics affecting the Parish. It is an opportunity for representatives from community groups to come together, introduce themselves to residents, report on achievements and activities for the year and provide a backdrop for the showcasing of new and ongoing projects. The Parish Council can also report on its ventures and the grants that have been distributed throughout the year. With local council, voluntary/community groups and residents coming together it is intended to encourage mutual cooperation and foster community spirit.
Whilst Chaired by the Parish Council Chairman, Parish Meetings are not Council meetings being better described as a ‘ resident's meeting' where any relevant issue can be raised for discussion. More information is provided in the Appendix to The Parish Council Standing Orders document.
Due the Coronavirus lockdown last spring, Parish Meetings were not held in 2020. This year 2021, due to government rules, the parish meetings will need to be held remotely on line.
The Laverton and Dallowgill meeting will be held on Monday 5 April at 7.30 pm and the Kirkby meeting will be held on Monday 12 April at 7.30 pm.
